About

In April of 2012 Horace Henriot and his family were living in Leuven, Belgium. After being out of the polo world for over a decade and engaging in non-profit and pastoral work, they decided to move to Ohio and use his talents to start a polo school & business, hoping it could be used as a source for good in the world. Within a year, they landed in his wife’s hometown: Columbus, Ohio.

In preparing for the polo school, Horace knew wooden polo ponies are of utmost importance in training beginners to play polo. Putting first-time students on a real horse poses too much danger to the animal and limits the practice swings of a learner. Owning wooden horses creates the possibility of students practicing independently, repetitively and safely.

But where to find them? After scouring the internet for an affordable wooden polo pony in the midwest, Horace decided to approach someone about building their own!

Greg & Horace

Horace approached his wife’s uncle about this project in early 2013. As an industrial technology teacher for 30 years, Greg Walsh is an experienced carpenter with beautiful craftsmanship. Though he was retiring, expecting his first two grand-babies and planning another daughter’s wedding within months, he agreed to come on board! His finished projects were quickly named (by the Henriot’s kids) Woody, Splinter and Scooby and are loved by all who visit the field for a polo lesson, outing or experience.

Due to overwhelming interest and appreciation for the finished product, Horace and Greg decided to make wooden polo ponies available on the market. Adopt ‘Woody’ as part of your string today!
